Not only is Brighton’s Boho Gelato (in our opinion) the BEST artisan ice cream producer in the city, creating handmade gourmet Italian style ice creams and sorbets in over 450 flavours, they are also well known for their work within the community.
We want to say a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to owner, and all round local hero Seb Cole, for once again, creating a unique fundraising flavour, in support of Young City Reads, our BIG READ for children across the city and beyond.
Seb conjured up a scintillating Syrian-themed sensation, in honour of this year’s Young City Reads book, ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Q Rauf, winner of The Blue Peter Book Award and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. The gelato combined traditional flavours of Mastic Gum, Rose and Pistachio to get Brighton’s taste buds popping. It was named Sweet Syrah by Twitter follower @thisoldmole as part of a competition on social media, after the sister of the book’s main character Ahmet.
The £950 raised will pay for books, workshops and event tickets, supporting children in areas of high deprivation across Brighton & Hove, helping to inspire a love of reading amongst children with less access to books.
Boho Gelato now supply over 30 local businesses and have shops at Pool Valley and Ship Street in Brighton, where at least 24 ever changing varieties are on offer daily. Open throughout the summer for those gelato cravings! A little bird tells us they’ve just created a vegan Plum Crumble flavour. Mmmmmm……..
