The members of our wonderful reading group at First Base: Street Readers, had an exclusive tour backstage at Brighton Dome recently. One group member, who is a musician, was very excited to be standing on the same stage that his hero (Jimi Hendrix) once played.
David Bowie also played Brighton Dome five times between 1969 and 1973 and Pink Floyd were regular performers at the venue in the 1960s and 70s, appearing eight times between 1966 and 1972. The Dome also hosted ABBA’s victory in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo.
The reading group is run on a weekly basis. Over the two year project, the aim is to encourage participants to add their own ideas to a group toolkit – so it becomes a living resource they can use. We will also offer training to group members, supporting them to ‘try out’ facilitating a session, so the group can continue as a peer led activity at First Base, after the two year funding comes to an end.
